The people who surround you can shape the events of your career journey.

Here are 5 types of people every woman should have in her career circle:

1. The Mentor

Someone who’s walked the path ahead of you and is willing to share their unfiltered experiences.

She gives you real perspective, honest insight, and reminds you that you’re not the first to face what you’re facing.

Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise - Proverbs 19:20

2. The Safe Peer

This is the woman you can message on a hard day. She gets it. She’s in the trenches too.

You celebrate each other’s wins, vent unashamedly , and remind each other to keep going.

A friend loves at all times, and a sister is born for a time of adversity - Proverbs 17:17

3. The Challenger

This is the one who lovingly stretches you. She’s not backing down if it means you’ll shrink.

She speaks life into your potential. She reminds you of your goals. She asks the hard questions to help you rise.

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another - Proverbs 27:17

4. The Sponsor

This person opens doors. She mentions your name in rooms you haven’t entered yet.

She believes in your abilities and is not afraid to advocate for you; whether that’s with a recommendation, a connection, or a seat at the table.

Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips - Proverbs 27:2

5. The Anchor

This might be someone outside your field; a sister, a husband, a close friend, even your mum.

She reminds you that you’re more than your work. That you’re still lovable, still enough, even when the job is hard or uncertain.

He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge - Isaiah 33:6

The career path can be beautiful, but also lonely if you’re doing it without support. You don’t need everyone to understand, you just need the right few who do.
